CHARTER OF CONFIRMATION

Grand Commandery of Knights Templar

OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND

To all whom it may Concern, Greeting: Whereas, Maryland Commandery No. 1, formerly known as Encampment No. 1, Knights Templar of Baltimore, claiming to have been instituted in the year 1790, under and by virtue of the Warrant of Washington Lodge, No. 3, but its delegates duly appointed, assembled in the City of Philadelphia on the 15th day of February 1814, did then and there, in concert with certain other Encampments organize the Pennsylvania Grand Encampment, and received therefrom a Charter of Recognition, bearing date May 2, 1814. Under which charter the said Encampment No. 1 regularly worked until the 27th day of November 1832, when it became a constituent of the General Grand Encampment of the United States, and was so received and acknowledged by the Grand Officers of said General Grand Encampment, under whose authority the said Encampment No. 1 (since 1857 known as Maryland Commandery, No. 1) continued its labors until the 12th day of December 1870, when in concert with Baltimore Commandery, No. 2 and Monumental Commandery No. 3, did organize the Grand Commandery of the State of Maryland and become a constituent thereof, but through inadvertence the Charter of Recognition of said Maryland Commandery No. 1, Knights Templar was not endorsed by the Grand Commandery of Maryland.

Now therefore, we, the Officers of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the State of Maryland, by virtue of the power in us vested, do hereby confirm unto Maryland Commandery No. 1, K. T., all the rights, powers, and privileges heretofore vested in said Commandery by the Chater above mentioned, forever, provided however, that the officers and members of said Maryland Commandery, No. 1, Knights Templar and their successors, pay due respect to the Constitution and Edicts of the General Grand Encampment of the United States and the Grand Commandery of the State of Maryland, and is no way remove the Ancient Landmarks of our Order, otherwise this Charter and all things herein contained be void and of no effect. Given at the City of Baltimore in the State of Maryland, this 30th day of March, in the year of our Lord, 1891, and of our Order, 774.
